Two of Class A’s top programs will go to battle Friday with a game full of playoff implications at Nebraska-Kearney’s Cope Stadium when Kearney High (4-1) hosts No. 4 Millard West (4-1).
The Bearcats, ranked third in the preseason after making a finals run in 2017, have rattled off four straight wins after an opening loss to Grand Island. As balanced as you can be, the Cats average 362 yards of offense (180 rushing and 182 passing) led by QB Brayden Miller and RB Miko Maessner.
Millard West leaves the metro for the first time all season. After a week two loss to top-ranked Omaha Burke the Wildcats beat ranked opponents in weeks three and four: Omaha North (28-14) and Millard South (34-27 in overtime).
A win would go a long way toward extending playoffs streaks: Millard West has not missed since 2006 and Kearney has missed just twice since 2001.
