YORK — It was an orange kind of night at the first annual Striv All-Star Basketball Classic presented by Cornerstone Bank on Saturday with both boys and girls Orange Squads taking victory over their Blue Squad counterparts.
In the girls game, Grand Island Northwest’s Erin Schleicher lead the Orange with 18 points as they overcame a 31-21 first quarter deficit for an 80-75 victory. Three other players were in double figures for the Orange team as Delaney Lemkau (Sutton) scored 14 while Audra Corbit (Laurel-Concord/Coleridge) and Christina Daniels (Wallace) each had 12. Daniels has 10 points in the decisive fourth quarter.
In the night cap, Central City’s Andrew Lee led four Orange players in double figures with 18 points as they sprinted to a 50-27 halftime lead before winning 97-73. Cole Klingsporn (High Plains) added 14 points while Derek Luzum (Exeter-Milligan) and Cole Nickels (Heartland) each scored 12 points.
Between games, Klingsporn won the John Kohl Auto Center 3-point Contest with a 13-9 win over Fairbury’s Sidney Pullman. Prior to the boys game, the opening shot was made by Centennial wrestler Doyle Trout, a four-time state champion, who lost a portion of his left leg in an auto accident in April.
“For our first all-star event, we were extremely excited and pleased with fan support for the game,” Striv CEO Taylor Siebert said. “As our streaming platform continues to grow, we hope to continue growing this unique event in the future.”
