A Class C-1, top-Ten battle looms large in Albion on Friday night as tenth-ranked Boone Central/Newman Grove looks for another top-five upset as they face second-ranked Norfolk Catholic.
After a week two loss to Wayne, the Cardinals bounced back last week with a resounding 42-0 win against defending C-1 champion O’Neill. The game ended the Eagles 15-game win streak. In the win, BC/NG took it right to the champs, as quarterback Dylan Gentrup was just 4-for-5 passing for 74 yards but the Cards ran for 314 yards with senior Levi Krueger carrying 24 times for 129 yards and three scores. Gentrup added 65 yards on 13 carries.
The Knights have played an equally difficult schedule dispatching of fifth-ranked Wahoo last week 24-19 and sixth ranked Bishop Neumann 24-7 in the opener. A staple in Class C-1, coach Jeff Bellar’s team has advance to the state playoffs every season since 1996 winning seven state titles in 10 championship game appearances. Junior running back Dylan Kautz scored on a 77-yard run against Wahoo last week and senior Chase Clausen added a pair of receiving scores.
