Six golfers from Striv schools finished in the top-ten after the first day of golf at the 2014 State Tournament which will conclude Tuesday at three sites across the state.
In Class A at Norfolk Country Club, Omaha Central’s Emily Jezewski fired a first round 89 and is in the sixth place. She trails Omaha Burke’s Nia Station by seven shots entering the final round.
In Class B at Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln, McCook’s Kacee Samway and Crete’s Murphy Sears are tied for ninth after shooting first round 89’s. Sara Klasson of Plattsmouth leads the individual race with a 77. In the team race, Aurora is third with a 391 and they trail Scottsbluff (374) and Omaha Skutt (381) in the team race. Northwest is sixth and Crete is ninth.
In Class C at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, Doniphan-Trumbull’s Brandi Lemek, Heartland’s Paige Mestl and Boone Central’s Melissa Kyncl are all the in the top-ten. Lemek shot an 84 and is in third, Mestl shot 90 and Kyncl 92 to sit in fourth and seventh, respectively. Cozad is sixth and Dundy County-Stratton is ninth in the team race.
