Our Game-of-the-Week returns to Northwest High School in Grand Island this week and the matchup with Scottsbluff brings back memories of the 38-35 all-timer we witnessed two years ago.
This time it’s the sixth-ranked Bearcats who may have the slight edge as they come to Grand Island off a 34-28 win over Aurora last week. Both teams have made the playoffs the past two seasons. Scottsbluff has won six of the last seven meetings.
The Bearcats are off to an undefeated start behind their traditional power run game. Junior Chris Busby leads Scottsbluff with 574 yards and eight scores on the season while topping 100 yards in each contest. Defensively, Nebraska commit Garrett Nelson leads a defense that hasn’t given up more than 20 points in their first three games.
The Vikings counter with the state’s top passing attack. Junior Carter Terry leads the state with 1,071 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing 66 of 103 attempts. On defense, NW has allowed just seven points a game in three wins with their lone loss coming to seventh-ranked Columbus.
